Women in science
The National Museum of Science and Technology, MUNCYT, today hosted "Referentes que inspiran".
Women scientists claimed today in A Coruña their role in science and technology to value the work done and serve as references for girls who want to devote themselves to scientific and technical professions. The National Museum of Science and Technology, MUNCYT, in A Coruña today celebrated "International Women's Day" by hosting the activity "Inspiring role models", organised in collaboration with the Spanish Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SEBBM) and with the participation of A Coruña City Council through the city's Tourism and Congress Consortium.
The event was attended by María Mayán, researcher at the Institute of Biomedical Research of A Coruña (INIBIC) and SEBBM Coordinator for Women and Science, who spoke about "Why do we need female role models? In a dialogue between students and scientists, Guadalupe Sabio, from the National Centre for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC), Verónica Bolón, from the Centre for Research in Information and Communication Technologies of the University of A Coruña (CITIC-UDC), Sara Sdelci from the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), África González from the Centro de Investigaciones Biomédicas de la Universidade de Vigo (CNBIO), María José Alonso from the Centro Singular de Investigación en Medicina Molecular y Enfermedades Crónicas de la Universidade de Santiago de Compostela (CIMUS), and María Fernández and Antón Salazar, both from the British International School.
Nearly one hundred primary and secondary school students from A Coruña and Ferrol attended this meeting, in which the role of women in science and technology was made visible. The participants highlighted their most outstanding contributions and showed success stories. They are references that encourage other female researchers and awaken scientific vocations among the youngest.
