During the past month of March, a total of 29,769 travellers of national origin visited A Coruña, staying in hotels in the city, and 5,171 travellers of international origin. The figures published by the National Statistics Institute (INE) for March are the highest in the last five years, consolidating the recovery of the occupancy levels of before the pandemic. 

The Consortium of Tourism and Congresses of A Coruña is optimistic about the evolution of the city's tourism sector; the data reflect the improvement in occupancy rates and allow us to see the strengthening of the hotel and catering sector. The Board of Directors of Hospeco (A Coruña Hotel Business Association) held a meeting this morning to analyse the latest data from the INE, the activity at Easter and to establish promotional lines for the coming months. The technical meeting was attended by the president of Hospeco, Agustín Collazos, and the manager of the Tourism and Congress Consortium of A Coruña, Moisés Jorge Naranjo, among other members. 

A comparison of the data on travellers and overnight stays for March shows the increase in the number of visitors (with accommodation). In March this year, a total of 29,769 people of national origin travelled and stayed in A Coruña, a figure higher than the 25,216 in 2019. The figure for March also represents a notable increase compared to 2022, with 26,742 visitors/ overnight stays. In the pandemic years this figure had fallen to 9,799 in 2021 and 8,885 in 2020. 

In terms of travellers from other countries, this March there were 5,171 foreign travellers (with accommodation), compared to 4,105 in March 2022 and 5,122 in 2019. Regarding the percentage of occupancy in March, A Coruña, with 52.85%, surpasses Santiago, with 47.06%, Vigo, with 44.12% and Sanxenxo, with 43.06%. In total number of visitors, during the first quarter of 2023 almost 90,000 people visited A Coruña, a figure that is also higher than in 2019, when 87,959 visitors were registered. In the first quarter of 2023, overnight stays in hotels in the city amounted to 130,000.

The recent launch of new international flights to Geneva and Milan has boosted activity through Alvedro Airport and will reinforce tourism activity in the coming months and summer season. On the other hand, the Tourism Observatory of A Coruña, a tool that the University of A Coruña is working on, will enable the analysis of the evolution of the city's tourism data in order to establish lines of improvement and reinforcement.
