A Coruña presents its tourism and cultural offer in Switzerland, boosted by new international flights

Geneva and Milan increase the range of international connections available from A Coruña airport

The Mayoress, Inés Rey, presented this Saturday in Geneva (Switzerland) the tourist and cultural offer of A Coruña, an initiative formulated by the City Council with the aim of publicising the new air connection between the Swiss city and Alvedro airport, in operation since Sunday 26 March, operated by EasyJet.

On Saturday morning Inés Rey met with the Deputy Mayor of the Swiss city, Alfonso Gómez. During the meeting they discussed the importance of the new air connection between the two cities and the possibilities it opens up for both tourism promotion and labour relations.

A Coruña is already being promoted in Geneva through a campaign on the trams. "The new air connection, in addition to expanding the range of international destinations already existing in Alvedro, brings Switzerland and Galicia, already historically linked, even closer together", said the councillor. In this sense, Inés Rey pointed to the strong presence of Galicians in Geneva, where the oldest Galician centre in Switzerland is located. "The provision of the air connection with Alvedro builds a new bridge with its origins", added the mayoress.

In addition, Inés Rey and Alfonso Gómez shared the various initiatives that the two cities share in terms of mobility, humanisation of public spaces and commitment to the environment. Both agreed on the need to give continuity to measures such as the commitment to the bicycle as an alternative means of transport and the expansion of green areas, as an additional way to combat climate change.

Meeting with the community of A Coruña in Geneva

After this meeting at the Palais Anna et Jean-Gabriel Eynard, the Kiosque des Bastions hosted on Saturday afternoon the presentation of the new air connection between Alvedro and Geneva, an event in which Inés Rey was accompanied by a large representation of the community of A Coruña in the Swiss city.

In addition to the Mayoress of A Coruña, the event was attended by the Spanish Ambassador to Switzerland, Celsa Nuño, the Consul General of Spain in Geneva, Alberto Navarro, and the General Manager of Easyjet Spain, Javier Gándara, accompanied by the airline's Director of International Programming, Mateo Finotto. The meeting was also attended, among others, by David Rey and Alicia Nido, members of the Permanent Mission of Spain to the UN, and Carmen García and Antonio Pena, from the Association of Spanish Parents in Geneva.

The first flight between Geneva and Alvedro, Sunday 26th

The departure of the inaugural flight from Geneva (Easyjet EZS1401) took place on Sunday 26 March. The Mayoress was accompanied by the General Manager of Easyjet Spain, Javier Gándara.

A Coruña and Geneva will be connected all year round, with two weekly frequencies (Thursdays and Sundays). "Geneva International Airport is the second most important airport in Switzerland, with an annual traffic of around 18 million passengers. And our aim is to continue working to increase the lines and frequencies of Alvedro, which already connects A Coruña with, for example, London, and to position the city as a tourist destination and give it back its place on the map with air routes on a par with the major cities of Europe," said Inés Rey.

In addition to the one to Geneva, there is another new connection from Alvedro to the Italian city of Milan, also through Easyjet and operating all year round on Tuesdays and Saturdays. It is the first time that Galicia has a regular connection with Milan Malpensa airport.
