A Coruña shines with the best national cuisine at the Galicia Fórum Gastronómico

The event will finish tomorrow with the I Concurso de Empanadas de Galicia (‘I ‘Empanadas’ Contest of Galicia’) and the workshops by David Yárnoz or Xosé Cannas (Pepe Vieira)

Thousands of people gathered this Monday at EXPOCoruña to enjoy the best national and international gastronomy thanks to the Galicia Fórum Gastronómico ('Galicia Gastronomic Fórum'); the event is aimed at the professionals of the northwest peninsula and chose A Coruña once again as the location that began this Sunday. The mayoress, Inés Rey, joined the inauguration and highlighted that "the Galicia Fórum Gastronómico makes A Coruña the gastronomic capital of Galicia".

Samples of the best cheese in the country, premium meats and ecologic products of vegetable gardens; tastings with D.O. wines, liquors and craft beers; showcookings on which tradition and vanguard merge to create true banquets; live presentations of kitchen utensils and last-generation machinery; the taste of the best Spanish olive oils or the experimentation of the flavours through smell. These are some of the activities that attendees have been able to enjoy these past few days on an event that strengthens A Coruña as the main Galician gastronomic capital.

Hightlights of today include the collaboration project between Estrella Galicia and Sargadelos, as well as the final of the north edition of the Campeonato Gallego de Tiraje de Cerveza ('Galician Print Run Championship'), thus resulting in the win by Maite Carreira Trigo of the patisserie-bakery O Ben me sabe (Laxe, A Coruña).

Others with an Estrella Galicia also showed their talent throughout the facilities of EXPOCoruña: Luis Veira from Árbore da Veira; Pepe Solla from Casa Solla (Poio, Pontevedra), Miguel González from O Pereiro do Aguiar (Orense) and Javier Olleros from Culler de Pau (O Grove, Pontevedra). The audience also got to see Lino Adillón live, from the restaurant Volver (Ushuaia); Diego Murciego, from the restaurant Desde 1911 (Madrid); Pablo Laya from Saddle (Madrid); Pedro Martino from Pedro Martino Restaurante (Caces, Asturias) or Julen Bergantiños from Islares Restaurante (Bilbao), among others. However, without a doubt, the main character of the day was Lluc Crusellas from Eukarya, winner of the World Chocolate Master 2022 award.

PROGRAMMING FOR TUESDAY, APRIL 9TH

Diverse activities related with the creation and development of a gastronomic and touristic brand will be held throughout the morning, along with an effective communication strategy. On a culinary note, highlights include, from 10:45 a.m. on, the Desafío XChef by Cervezas 1906 Estrella Galicia. This competition looks for the most talented cooks that perfectly combine creativity with good practice in their kitchens.

From 1 p.m. on, it will be possible to see David Yárnoz live, a cook that moves away from fashions and conventionalisms, which has taken him to achieve three Estrella Michelín (including a Green one) for his restaurant El Molino de Urdániz.

In the afternoon, the I Concurso de Empanadas de Galicia stands out. It will take place at the Ágora at 4 p.m. with the awards being given at 6:30 p.m.

The culinary cherry-on-top will be on Xosé Cannas, leader of the restaurant of Pontevedra Pepe Vieira with three Estrella Michelín (one of them Green). He will be joined by the anthropologist and researcher Rafael Quintiá.
