The Tower of Hercules area and Sculpture Park

Surface area: 46.61 hectares

Urban park located in the northern part of the municipality. It extends along the seashore, communicating with the rest of the city through a pedestrian circuit. The Tower of Hercules, the only Roman lighthouse and the oldest functioning lighthouse in the world, is one of the most emblematic images of A Coruña, which makes this park one of the most visited in the city. In addition, this is an area of special ecological importance due to the presence of the coastal ecosystem with an important presence of bird life.

Interesting facts:

- It is a park with gardens located at the northern end of the peninsula of A Coruña, in the vicinity of the Tower of Hercules.

- Formerly there were located the facilities of a military powder magazine, of which there are still the subway galleries, now buried.

- The gardens are divided into three areas: the Jardín del Moro, the Mirador del Huerto and the Rincón del Viento.

- The gardens have wooden paths, benches, deckchairs, huts to shelter from the wind and rain and a replica of the Tower of Hercules at ground level with the appearance it had in 1770.

House of the word:

- Built over the old Moorish Cemetery, the House of the Word houses an irrigation ditch, a fountain and four landscaped areas inside.

Tile plaques were installed on the walls with ancient texts inscribed with the name of the city, such as verses by Alfonso X, as well as several words of Arabic origin.-

Inauguration date: December 1, 2006.
