This house museum was the family home of Santiago Casares Quiroga, Republican politician, lawyer and Minister of the Navy, Interior and War, who became President of the Government of the Second Republic.

This house was also the place where his daughter María Casares was born in 1922, a brilliant theatre and film actress who triumphed as an exile in France. This artist - expressive, intelligent, a great conversationalist, attractive and a masterful performer - received the Molière Award and the National Theatre Award in France.

The house museum, inaugurated on 14 April 2007, has three permanent exhibitions: María Casares and Casares Quiroga; the Second Republic; and Casares Quiroga's Family.

This museum aims to recreate what the home was like (dining room, kitchen, library, bathroom, etc.) and also endeavours to explain the history of the Casares family and that of republicanism in A Coruña by means of original pieces and reproductions of photos and documents.
