Opening hours, currency and language

The following tips will make your stay in the city a breeze. All you have to worry about is enjoying A Coruña.

Business hours

Shops are usually open from Monday through Saturday, from 10.00 to 20.30. Some shops and shopping centres are open exceptionally on certain Sundays and public holidays throughout the year.

The city markets are open from Monday through Friday, except public holidays, from 8.30 to 15.00, approximately.

There are also numerous small neighbourhood supermarkets open 7 days a week.

Language

In A Coruña there are two official languages: Galician, the language of the Community of Galicia, and Spanish.

Mealtimes are the same as in the rest of Spain: breakfast is eaten between 7.30 and 10.00.

Lunch is served in restaurants between 13.00 and 15.30, and dinner is served between 20.00 and 23.30. 

Banking hours

Most banks are open from Monday through Friday from 8.30 to 14.30. There are also 24-hour ATMs available throughout the city, most of which (Servired, 4B, etc.) provide international service.

Currency exchange

The official currency is the euro.

Payment by bank card is widespread and available in most establishments. Even so, it is advisable to carry some cash with you.
