A Coruña joins the Picasso Celebration

Picasso Route in A Coruña

A Coruña joins this 2023 the Picasso Celebration, marking the 50th anniversary of the death of this universal artist. With more than 30 activities schedule for these months, A Coruña enters the network of Picassian cities such as Barcelona, Malaga, Paris, Madrid or Bilbao, highlighting the link between the painter and the Herculin city.

Pablo Picasso spent part of his childhood in A Coruña, a city in which he developed his passion for painting, a phase of his career that many call the "first Picasso". During his tween years, he organised his first exhibition (on Calle Real) and went to the School of Fine Arts, nowadays Eusebio da Guarda Institute.

Throughout this 2023, different spaces such as the Picasso House Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Kiosco Alfonso or the Luis Seoane Foundation host exhibitions, conferences, festivals and congresses.

The place where he lived during his A Coruña period, a House Museum for 20 years, hosts the exhibition 'Opening our collection', with documents and works from the municipal archive, and others like 'El Guernica, a universal vignette', 'Posters in tribute to Pablo Ruiz Picasso' or 'Na miña casa' (at my house). You can consult the rest of the programming of the Casa Museo here.

Another highlight is the exhibition 'Picasso, white in blue memory', which can be visited between March and June at the Museo de Belas Artes with representative works of that stage of the artist's formation. This exhibition is composed of ten thematic blocks that highlight the characteristics of its passage through the Herculin city from 1891 to 1895. In addition to these events, there will be a series of lectures under the title 'Lovers, muses, models. Picasso and his women', which will take place between February and October at the Luis Seoane Foundation. This conferences explore the painter's relationship with Fernande Olivier, Eva Gouel, Olga Koklova, MarieThérèse Walter, Dora Maar, Françoise Gilot and Jacqueline Roque, among others. This Foundation will also host the III International Congress Art and Education which will feature an international masterclass on young Picasso. More information on fundacionluisseoane.gal
