A Coruña remembers Alfred Hitchcock through the short film 'Balle Voyage' by Iria Ares

The Colon Theatre hosted today the premiere of the film, which has the support of the City Council of A Coruña through the Tourism Consortium

The Colon Theatre was the chosen venue for the premiere today of the short film 'Balle Voyage', a production directed by the A Coruña-born Iria Ares, centred on a story worthy of the filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock, in which the director's passion and way of making films can be appreciated.

The event was attended by the Councillor for Tourism, Commerce and Hospitality, Diana Sobral; and the head of Institutional Relations, Tourism and Public Safety, Juan Ignacio Borrego.

Before the screening, the audience could also attend an interesting discussion with Iria Ares and the actor and producer Xoán Carlos Mejuto.

The short film has the support of the City Council of A Coruña, through the Consortium of Tourism and Congresses; the Provincial Council of A Coruña and Galicia Calidade.

A Coruña, a city of cinema

This is not the first time that the city of A Coruña has been the protagonist of a film or series. Titles such as Finisterre, donde termina el mundo (1999), O Lapis do carpinteiro (2003), Mar adentro (2004), Invasor (2012), El desconocido (2015), Operación marea negra (2022), Fatum (2023), or Clanes (to be released in 2024) are just some examples that show that A Coruña has spaces and locations with a perfect essence for filming in them.

However, the production company Estudo Momento, with the help of Iria Ares and Xoán Carlos Mejuto, decided to go further and give a leading role to one of the most characteristic tourist elements of the city and Monte de San Pedro: its lift in the shape of a sphere. In fact, it is in this place where all the action of 'Balle Voyage' takes place.

Prizes

The short film has just received a new nomination at the County Independent Film Festival (Maryland, United States), and today, during its premiere, the Roel Award for Best BSO obtained at the Medina del Campo Film Festival was presented to the authorities. For this event, members and musics of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia performed the BSO, composed by the musician Manu Riveiro.
